Shoal Bay

Shoal Bay
We have been experiencing some crazy hot weather the last few weeks, and last Sunday was no exception.  Thankfully we got to spend the day escaping the heat in a gorgeous part of the NSW called Shoal Bay, so I thought I'd share a few pictures of our getaway with you.  Thank you to the team behind the Volvo V60 Polestar review who I've teamed up with to bring you today's post.

Shoal Bay is approximately one and a half hours from our house, the perfect distance for a day trip now the kids are a little older and can cope with the drive well.  We have a few tricks up our sleeve for keeping the kids happy on the trip, some of which include:

  •  Make sure their bellies are full of nutritious food (or even better, pack food to eat along the way, with the first meal/snack starting as you pull out of your driveway!)
  • Save technology (like Ipads/DVD's) until later in the trip, pull them out only when the kids get restless.
  • Kids music can keep the kids entertained for a good amount of time, my kids love to sing a long to their favourite CDs.

If you are looking for more tips then here is my comprehensive list of tips for keeping the kids happy during long drives.

So we set off early Sunday morning - I am so thankful these days that we have a car that we can fit all the kids equipment in - from bikes and scooters, to boogie boards and surfboards.  Just take a look at all the bags we need for a day trip to the beach/pool..

buying a family car

I don't know what we would do if we still had the sedan we drove when the kids were first born.  A large car with good boot space is such a necessity for our active lifestyle.  I love being able to just throw everything in the back and go on adventures.  If you are looking for a good family car and you are like me, then after safety, the next priority on your list should definitely be room for adventures.

Shoal Bay is such a beautiful spot with it's turquoise water and white sand.  We felt as if we were on a tropical island somewhere.  There is a lovely holiday atmosphere with great cafes, shopping, and water sports hire.  We spent the rest of the morning lounging around the pool at the Ramada Resort Shoal Bay.  The pool was fantastic and perfect for children.  The kids had a ball practicing their swimming strokes after jumping into the pool trying to out-do each other.  The younger ones toddled around in the baby pool playing under the fountains.  It was so lovely and relaxing, I really wish we could have stayed longer than just the day.  We finished off the afternoon with some Ice Cream birthday cake for a special little guy and lunch in a great child-friendly pub with live music a few doors down from the resort.
