hunter valley christmas lights spectacular

Hunter Valley Christmas lights
When I was contacted recently and invited to attend the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas Lights Spectacular, I jumped at the opportunity. Not only do I love all things Christmas, but in previous years I had heard about the amazing display put on by the Hunter Valley Gardens, so it is something I've been wanting to attend for quite a while now.
As neither Hubs nor I had been to the HVG before, we decided to arrive early and have a look around the gardens before the light show began. Gates opened at 6.30pm and there was food, Santa Claus, kids shows and entertainment to keep us busy until it got dark. My two little active munchkins could not get past this amazing jumping castle..

As dusk fell over the garden it came alive. The hours passed in the blink of an eye as we marvelled at the magical displays flowing throughout the garden. And magical is the only way to describe it as it almost felt like I too, was a child again, walking though the storybook garden, surrounded by flickering lights and characters of childhood fairytales..
The children were mesmerised the entire time, there was no shortage of things to do or see. As we were leaving I asked Mr 4 what his favourite part was, thinking it might have been the wonderful model train set he spent quite a long time watching, but he replied, "All of it" which I think pretty much sums it up. If I had to pick though, I think my favourite part had to be Cinderella's castle and her horse-drawn pumpkin coach, every little (and big) girl's dream...
And finally.. just when you think you have seen everything, the gardens open up into a fantastic musical light show, and a marquee with a children's disco and the model train set. (Oh and I captured a tiny snippet of my munchkin's doing some breakdancing at the light show, click here to see it, it's just too cute not to share)..
What do you think? Do you need a night of Christmas magic and fairytale adventures? For more information, you can check out the Christmas Lights Spectacular on YouTube or Facebook.
